FERNTREE GULLY ARTS SOCIETY

The Ferntree Gully Arts Society had its beginnings in 1944 with a letter sent by local potter, Allan Lowe, to the Secretary of the Ferntree Gully Shire, suggesting that an Art Exhibition be held to “develop the cultural and appreciative level of our residents and (the money raised) donated to the Red Cross to aid fighting men”.

Our Collection

Over the last seventy-odd years, The Ferntree Gully Arts Society has built up a collection of some 100 works of art. Many of these were as acquisitive prizes from exhibitions, some were presented to the FTG Arts Society and others were donated.

EXHIBITIONS

The FTG Arts Society runs regular exhibitions over ten months of the year. Some of these encourage non-members to display their work for an opportunity to win awards, whilst the rest of our monthly exhibitions feature artworks by members who can win some “art supply money” in a popular vote prize.

Ferntree Gully Film Society

The Ferntree Gully Film Society had its beginnings in 1956 when it was established as part of the Ferntree Gully Arts Society.

Originally screening at the Hut Gallery up until 1994 with 16mm projectors, the Society moved to Boronia Cinema and then to the Europa Cinema at Village Cinemas Knox using 35mm and nowadays DCP.

The Society presents a series of film screenings of both English language and International films on the fourth Monday of each month and is an affiliated member of the Victorian Federation of Film Societies.

Membership is on a yearly basis with 11 films each year from February to December.  A concession rate is offered.
